Love Rain is a South Korean romantic drama that depicts the hardships of two couples as they try to find happiness with their true love. In the 1970's, Seo In Ha (Jang Geun Suk), a talented art student, falls in love with the shy and soft spoken Kim Yoon Hee (Im Yoona). As they get to know one another, they form what will prove to be a pure and innocent love. As their love begins to bloom, a series of unfortunate circumstances prevent the two from being together. Although they are forced to separate, the two promise themselves as well as each other that they will meet again. As the next 30 years pass by, the two keep the memories they created in their short time together buried deep within their hearts, forever as the beautiful memories of a pure and true first love.

Years later in the present day, Seo In Ha's son, Seo Joon (Jang Geun Suk), and Kim Yoon Hee's daughter, Jung Ha Na (Im Yoona), meet one another during their stay in Japan. During her visit, Ha Na, a cheerful and outgoing girl, is hoping to find her mother's first love. Ha Na, having an extremely close relationship with her mother, wishes more than anything to reunite her mother with her first love, believing that her mother's happiest memories came from being with this person. Joon, on the other hand, does not have a close relationship with his father and in fact tries his best to avoid seeing him at all. He feels bitter towards his father for not being able to forget his first love. Joon believes that because In Ha couldn't forget his first love he was never able to give Joon or his mother, In Ha's now ex-wife, his love. Joon's mother is an alcoholic and he blames her behavior on his father. Without knowing that their parents knew one another in the past, Joon and Ha Na fall in love.

During a rainy day similar to the day they fell in love, In Ha and Yoon Hee meet again. Without knowing of the relationship between their children, the two rekindle their past romance and decide to get married, announcing their plans to their children. Needless to say, the young couple is shocked by these turn of events. So where do the two couples go from here?
