Luck was an American television drama series that aired from December 2011 to March 2012 on HBO. The show was created by David Milch and starred Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte, Dennis Farina, and John Ortiz. The series chronicled the lives of various characters involved in the world of horse racing, including jockeys, trainers, owners, and gamblers.

Hoffman played the lead character, Chester "Ace" Bernstein, a wealthy and successful businessman who was recently released from prison after serving three years for securities fraud. Upon his release, Ace reunites with his longtime chauffeur and bodyguard, Gus Demitriou (Farina), and begins to plot his revenge against the people who betrayed him in the past.

At the same time, Ace sets his sights on the world of horse racing and hopes to become a major player in the industry. He partners with an old friend, Turo Escalante (Ortiz), a successful trainer, to buy a promising colt named Pint of Plain. Ace hopes to use Pint of Plain to gain access to the lucrative world of high-stakes horse racing and make a fortune.

Meanwhile, Walter Smith (Nolte) is an aging trainer who has seen better days. He struggles to keep his stable afloat and is desperate for a win. When Walter's prize racehorse suddenly dies, he teams up with a young jockey, Rosie (Kerry Condon), to train a new horse, Gettin' Up Morning. Together, Walter and Rosie hope to bring Gettin' Up Morning to victory and secure their place in the racing world.

Luck also follows several other characters in the world of horse racing, including a group of gamblers who place bets on races, a female jockey trying to break into the male-dominated sport, and various trainers and owners dealing with personal and professional struggles.

The series was praised for its realistic portrayal of the horse racing industry and the characters involved in it. The show's creators consulted with real-life jockeys and trainers to ensure that the depictions of the racing world were accurate and authentic.

However, the show faced controversy during production when three horses died on set. Animal welfare groups criticized Luck for its use of horses in risky and potentially dangerous filming situations. HBO ultimately canceled the series after one season due to concerns over the safety of the animals.

Despite its short run, Luck garnered critical acclaim and was praised for its strong performances and compelling storylines. The series was nominated for several awards, including the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series, and Hoffman received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama.

In conclusion, Luck was a dramatic series that explored the complex world of horse racing through a diverse cast of characters. With strong performances from its talented cast and authentic depictions of the racing industry, the show offered a compelling and engaging portrayal of a unique subculture.

Luck is a series that is currently running and has 1 seasons (9 episodes). The series first aired on January 29, 2012.
