In Mad Men season 4 episode 1, entitled "Public Relations," we see the return of our favorite characters at the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce advertising agency. The episode picks up a few months after the shocking finale of season 3, which saw Don Draper proposing to his secretary, Megan, in a last-ditch effort to make sense of his life.

As the episode begins, we see that Don is now in a new relationship with Megan and she is working at the agency as his secretary. The company is trying to recover from the loss of one of their top clients and the partners decide that they need to generate more publicity and improve their image.

Don is in charge of coming up with a new advertising campaign and he struggles to come up with something fresh and exciting. Meanwhile, the company is under fire from the press after a journalist publishes a scathing article about them. Don becomes paranoid about the negative attention and decides to do an interview with a reporter from a high-profile magazine in an attempt to spin the story in his favor.

We also see the return of some familiar faces in this episode. Peggy, who left the agency at the end of season 3, is now working for a rival firm. She struggles to fit in with her new colleagues and feels like an outsider. We see her trying to come up with a creative idea for a new product and she realizes that she misses working with Don and the rest of the team.

Joan is also back at work after giving birth to a baby boy and she is trying to balance her new role as a mother with her job at the agency. She is still dealing with her feelings for Roger, who is now married to someone else, and we see them have a tense encounter in the elevator.

Overall, season 4 episode 1 of Mad Men is a strong start to the new season. It sets up some interesting storylines for the characters and keeps us engaged with the ongoing drama at the advertising agency. We see that the company is still struggling to stay afloat, and that the people who work there are dealing with their own personal dramas as well. Don's paranoia about the negative press and his attempt to spin the story in his favor sets up a compelling plotline for the rest of the season. We are left wondering what will happen next and how the various characters will continue to evolve and navigate the complex world of 1960s New York City.
