  • October 15, 2005

Believing Belinda is the sixth episode of the first season of Magical DoReMi. The episode begins with Doremi, Hazuki, Aiko, and Onpu heading to the amusement park. At the amusement park, Doremi sees a fortune-telling machine while they were eating cotton candy. Doremi used their saved-up allowance to get her fortune from the machine, but the rude delivery made her angry, and she kicked the machine. The fortune machine drops a card that reads "Your weakness is your lack of belief."

Feeling down about the card, Doremi walks off on her own and meets a lonely girl named Belinda. Doremi learns that Belinda moves from place to place with her father because of his job, and as a result, she never really had any friends. She also revealed that her father said that he was an alien, which made Doremi shocked and confused.

Doremi went back to her friends and complained about the fortune machine, saying it was probably fake and made-up, causing Aiko to call Doremi out, saying that it was not fair to dismiss things simply because she couldn't understand them. This made Doremi further realize the truth in her fortune's words and made her more determined to turn things around.

Doremi goes to see Belinda again and learns that she figures she would get blown away just as quickly as autumn leaves. Doremi tries to encourage her and give her hope, but Belinda states that it's not that simple.

After spending more time with Belinda, Doremi learns that even though she doesn't look like she believes in anything, she actually does have things she cares about, like her stuffed bear and the dance that her grandmother used to do with her when she was young.

Meanwhile, Majorika gets sick and has to stay in bed. Her sister, Lala, comes to take care of her but ends up taking care of the shop too. Lala proves to be a master of the Dulcet Tones, which is a magical tool that sings when someone is lying, and uses it to test out a new beverage, which leads to comical consequences.

The episode wraps up with Doremi telling Belinda about her fortune, and even though Belinda doesn't believe in fortunetelling, she does believe in Doremi. Eventually, the girls and Belinda exchanged phone numbers so that they could keep in touch.

In conclusion, Believing Belinda is a heartwarming episode that teaches the importance of believing in oneself and others. Doremi tries to help Belinda overcome her fears and doubts while she also tries to come to terms with her own weaknesses. It's an episode that showcases the power of friendship and the importance of being understanding and compassionate towards others.
