Ep 7. Special Guest Bryan Callen

  • October 19, 2011

Master Debaters With Jay Mohr is a comedic debate show that pits two teams of celebrity debaters against each other to argue some of the most absurd and ridiculous topics in pop culture. Season 1, episode 7, entitled "Special Guest Bryan Callen," sees Jay Mohr joined by comedian Bryan Callen, known for his roles in TV shows like MADtv and The Goldbergs.

The debaters for this episode are split into two teams: "The Mighty Morphin' Flower Arrangers" and "Team Cuddlebuddies." On Team Flower Arrangers, we have actress and comedian Mary Lynn Rajskub, and actor and writer Steve Skrovan. On Team Cuddlebuddies, we have comedian and writer Michael Ian Black, and writer and producer Nell Scovell.

To begin the episode, Mohr introduces the topic for the opening round: "What's the worst haircut of all time?" The teams then go head-to-head, each trying to argue that their chosen haircut is the absolute worst. The arguments quickly devolve into absurdity, with jokes flying left and right. The judges for this round declare Team Flower Arrangers the winner, based on their creative descriptions of the terrible bowl cut.

The second round focuses on the question, "Which is the worst sequels of all time?" Again, the debaters come up with some hilariously bad movie sequels, and do their best to argue why they are truly the worst of the worst. The judges for this round give the win to Team Cuddlebuddies, who argued that "Weekend at Bernie's 2" was the most pointless sequel of all time.

The final round is a showdown between the two teams, each arguing a different side of the topic, "Who is the superior celebrity hair model: Fabio or Troy Polamalu?" The debaters get more serious with their arguments in this final round, but still manage to slip in plenty of jokes to keep the audience entertained. The judges declare Team Cuddlebuddies the winners of the final round, bringing their total score up to two wins for the episode.

As always, the show is full of hilarious moments and ridiculous arguments, and the addition of Bryan Callen as a special guest only adds to the fun. Mohr does an excellent job of keeping the pace moving and encouraging the debaters to bring their A-game. For fans of comedy and pop culture, Master Debaters With Jay Mohr is definitely a show worth checking out.
