  • February 15, 2015

In season 45, episode 12 of Masterpiece titled Grantchester: Part 5, we see a continuation of the thrilling crime drama series. The episode is set in the picturesque town of Grantchester, where the inhabitants lead seemingly peaceful lives until a crime shakes the community to its core.

The story centers around the town's resident detective, Vicar Sidney Chambers, who is played by actor Robson Green. Sidney is a former soldier who became a vicar after experiencing the horrors of war. He is a compassionate and empathetic man who is always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

In this episode, we see Sidney grappling with his feelings for his best friend's fiancé, Amanda Kendall. She is played by actress Morven Christie, who embodies the role of a poised and beautiful woman who is caught in between two men. Amanda is engaged to Sidney's friend, and she is the one who summoned Sidney when her uncle goes missing.

The incident leads to the discovery of a dead body; the case falls into the hands of Sidney, who is investigating the matter. Meanwhile, Amanda is helping Sidney in uncovering the truth behind the murder. She proves to be a great asset to him as she has an eye for detail, and she can talk to people with ease.

Several suspects come into play, which makes the investigation more challenging. We see how Sidney struggles with his emotions as he tries to solve the case. His attraction to Amanda hinders his ability to focus entirely on the matter at hand, and at one point, he even finds himself questioning the validity of their friendship.

A standout character in the episode is Geordie Keating, who is portrayed by actor James Norton. He is Sidney's colleague and best friend, and he is the person that Sidney confides in whenever he is troubled. Geordie is a no-nonsense police officer who is committed to solving the case. His character's rough around the edges personality is an excellent foil to Sidney's sensitive demeanor.

As the investigation progresses, we see how the town's residents become more involved in the case. Everyone has something to hide, and their motives are unclear. The story keeps us guessing until the very end, and we never know who the culprit is until the truth is revealed.

The cinematography of the show is stunning, capturing the beauty of the landscape and the essence of the small town. The attention to detail in the set design and costumes transports us back to the 1950s, where the show is set.

Overall, Season 45, Episode 12 of Masterpiece titled Grantchester: Part 5 is a compelling episode that keeps us on the edge of our seats.
