Ep 36. Poldark, Season 1: Episode 7

Ross Poldark returns to his mine after Elizabeth's birthday party to find bankruptcy imminent and his home in disrepair. The miners go on strike but demand an impossible increase in wages, and Ross brokers a deal with George Warleggan for the price of copper. Ross's Uncle Charles proposes marriage between Ross and Demelza, but Ross is hesitant. Meanwhile, Verity discovers that Captain Blamey, whom she loves, has been accused of murder, and decides to marry him nevertheless. Ross puts his mine back to work, but the miners do not immediately return to the gallery, and some undermine it. Demelza continues to help her brothers, who are wanted criminals. While trying to stop them, she falls into a waist-high stream and becomes seriously ill with pneumonia. Ross pleads with Demelza to go to her bed and helps nurse her back to health. Ross travels to Bodmin Jail to finally confront his rival George Warleggan, but before he can press his case, he and Dwight are beaten and thrown into a cell. Dwight discovers Caroline's Uncle Ray has arranged for Dwight to be transferred to a different jail. On learning of Dwight's fate, Ross resolves to help him escape. At Nampara, Demelza discovers she is pregnant.
