When a priest claims to have information regarding a convicted murderer's innocence, Allison and Devalos hurry to take a closer look. All intellectual evidence was conclusive for serial killer Ray Borden, who was found guilty of killing four women, but this new info about his case could put his pending execution on hold. With help from a doctor friend and a captive, Ray's ex-girlfriend, who has psychic power herself, Allison goes to work on the case.

Allison encounters more nightmares than usual as she works on the case, including visions of her children in an execution chamber and finds herself tense and distracted. While her visions initially fail, she receives a literal sign from the heavens as she is driving with Joe and finally receives the information she needs to identify the killer. She remembers an architect who fits the mold after spotting a building with a scorpion on it, and the whole team scrambles to apprehend him before the execution is carried out. With the real killer apprehended, the group must confront the legal system as it seeks to prosecute him in ways that may exceed the court's authority and further harm the community's faith in justice. Allison eventually resolves the case, though, despite the obstacles, and she and Joe share a heartwarming moment over dinner before Ray's lethal injection.

The episode reveals a more personal side of Allison, particularly her relationship with her Catholic faith. She struggles with the idea of faith and of those who attempt to use it for their own gain. Borden's scheduled execution brought up a lot of questions, both ethical and personal, for Allison, particularly given the hostile reactions she received when she suggested that executions themselves were morally wrong. She came to believe that Borden was not the real killer and that he was not responsible for the murders, but no one would believe her until she received some physical evidence.

Throughout the episode, there is a sense of conspiracy around the case and the people who were investigating it. Allison believes that the prison system and the doctors involved are unfairly punishing Ray Borden and that the case itself is being misrepresented. The show involves some extensive courtroom drama and discussions around capital punishment and the capacity for rehabilitation.

All in all, Medium season 1 episode 12 is another fantastic episode of the show, which introduces some new and more personal plot elements while maintaining the series' suspenseful and engrossing storytelling. The case is rife with intrigue and the occasional supernatural twist, and the episode explores some deeper themes surrounding justice and faith while giving viewers another chance to see Allison's incredible psychic abilities in action. This episode will be thoroughly enjoyed by anyone who is a fan of mystery, drama, and supernatural entertainment.
