Ep 12. Clean For A Day

Haley and Dylan have been living together in the Dunphy household for a few months now, but their messy habits are starting to wear on everyone else. When Claire complains about the mess, Haley bets her that she can't clean the entire house in one day. Claire sees it as a challenge and bets Haley and Dylan that they can't keep the house clean for a week, with the prize being a dinner at a fancy restaurant.

Meanwhile, Jay and Gloria decide to have a garage sale to get rid of some of their old clutter. Manny wants to keep everything and hoards it all in his room, leading to a fight with Gloria. Cam and Mitchell are having a hard time finding a new preschool for Lily after her old one closed down, and they clash over which school to choose.

As the day of the clean-a-thon begins, Claire gets to work and enlists Alex and Luke to help her with the cleaning. They make good progress but hit a snag when they discover mold in the shower. Haley and Dylan use this opportunity to try to sabotage Claire's efforts and win the bet.

Meanwhile, Jay and Manny fight over Manny's hoarding, with Jay threatening to sell all of his things at the garage sale. Cam and Mitchell decide to visit a potential preschool, but Cam gets distracted by a street fair and nearly misses the appointment. Lily is unimpressed by the school, which leads to another argument between Cam and Mitchell.

Back at the Dunphy household, Claire and her team manage to get the house clean despite Haley and Dylan's attempts to derail them. Just as they finish, they get a call from Jay and Gloria, who are having trouble with their garage sale. They rush over to help, and Claire sells an old photo album to a woman who tells her it could be worth a lot of money.

The next day, Haley and Dylan struggle to keep the house clean, with Haley snapping at Dylan when he doesn't help out. Cam and Mitchell are still at odds over the preschool, with Cam coming up with a plan to create a fake school that will impress Lily. Jay and Gloria prepare to go out for the night, only to discover that Manny has bought back all of the garage sale items and filled the living room with them.

In the end, Haley and Dylan give up on the bet and concede that they are too messy to keep the house clean for a week. Cam and Mitchell make up and settle on a compromise preschool, and Jay and Gloria manage to get Manny to return all of the garage sale items. The family ends the episode gathered around the dinner table, with Claire revealing that the photo album she sold was actually worth a lot more than she thought.
