Monday Night Football Season 14 Episode 14 New York Jets at New Orleans Saints
- November 21, 1983
The fourteenth episode of the fourteenth season of "Monday Night Football" features a match up between the New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints. Both teams come into the game with something to prove. The visiting Jets have a mediocre record and are looking to make a late-season push for the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Saints are trying to maintain their position atop their division and secure a postseason berth.
The game kicks off at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. The venue is packed, with Saints fans cheering loudly for their team. The Jets are greeted with boos as they take the field. The tension in the air is palpable as the players line up for the opening kickoff.
The Saints get the ball first and start the game with a strong drive. Their quarterback, Drew Brees, looks sharp as he completes several passes to his receivers. The Jets defense is able to hold the Saints to a field goal, though, and the score is 3-0 in favor of New Orleans.
The Jets get the ball next and quickly go three-and-out. Their offense looks sluggish and out of sync. The boos from the crowd are getting louder as the Saints take the field again. Brees continues to carve up the Jets defense with his pinpoint accuracy, throwing a touchdown pass to give the Saints a 10-0 lead.
The Jets offense finally gets something going on their next drive. Their rookie quarterback, Sam Darnold, makes several impressive throws to move the ball down the field. The drive stalls out in the red zone, however, and the Jets settle for a field goal to make the score 10-3.
The Saints respond with another touchdown drive, thanks in large part to Brees and his talented group of receivers. The Jets defense looks helpless as the Saints march down the field with ease. The score is now 17-3, and the Jets are facing a steep uphill battle.
The rest of the half is a back-and-forth affair, with neither team able to score. The Jets defense starts to tighten up, though, and they are able to keep the Saints out of the end zone. The halftime score remains 17-3 in favor of New Orleans.
The second half starts off much like the first, with the Saints offense moving the ball at will. The Jets defense is unable to stop them, and the Saints extend their lead to 24-3. The Jets offense continues to struggle, and they are unable to mount any sort of comeback.
The game starts to get chippy as the Jets become frustrated with their lack of success. A few scuffles break out between the players, and the crowd gets rowdier with each passing minute. The Jets finally score a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but it is too little, too late. The final score is 24-10 in favor of the Saints.
Despite the loss, there are some positives for the Jets to take away from this game. Darnold shows flashes of brilliance and the defense tightens up in the second half. However, they have a lot of work to do if they want to make the playoffs. The Saints, on the other hand, look like a serious contender for the Super Bowl. With Brees playing at an elite level and a talented roster around him, they could go all the way.
