Monday Night Football Season 25 Episode 4 Denver Broncos at Buffalo Bills

  • September 26, 1994

The longest-running prime time program in American television history, Monday Night Football, brings the excitement and drama of-football-Sunday to a national audience once again for it's 25th season. The fourth episode of this season will feature the Denver Broncos traveling to upstate New York to take on the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium.

Both teams enter the game with identical 2-1 records, looking for a key win to help cement their position in the AFC. For the Broncos, their wins have come against teams with a combined 1-8 record, while their one loss was a blowout defeat at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens. Buffalo, on the other hand, has already beaten two playoff teams from last year in the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins, before falling to the unbeaten San Francisco 49ers last week.

One of the key storylines to follow in this game will be how each team defends against the opposing quarterback. For Denver, that means trying to slow down Josh Allen, who has been one of the league's hottest players to start the season. Allen has thrown for 1,038 yards and 10 touchdowns through three games, having only thrown a single interception. He's also a dangerous runner, having rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown so far in 2021. Keep an eye out for Broncos defensive stars like Von Miller, Justin Simmons, and Bradley Chubb to try and put pressure on Allen, hoping to force him into mistakes.

On the other side of the ball, the Bills will be tasked with stopping Teddy Bridgewater and the Broncos' offense. Bridgewater has been efficient and effective so far this year, completing 76% of his passes for 827 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Denver lacks a true #1 receiver, but they do have a duo of talented running backs in Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams, both capable of breaking off big plays. The Bills' defense, led by All-Pro corner Tre'Davious White, will need to try and keep everything in front of them and limit yards after the catch.

Another intriguing matchup to watch will be when the Broncos have the ball and the Bills send their pass rush after Bridgewater. Buffalo has already racked up 10 sacks on the year, led by defensive ends Jerry Hughes and Greg Rousseau, both of whom have 2.5 sacks each. Denver's offensive line has been solid so far, but they haven't faced a pass rush like this yet. If the Bills can get pressure on Bridgewater, it could lead to turnovers and short drives that swing the momentum in their favor.

Of course, this wouldn't be a primetime NFL game without some individual matchups that could steal the show. For Denver, keep an eye out for rookie Patrick Surtain II, who has already shown flashes of being a lockdown cornerback in his short time in the league. He'll likely be asked to shadow Buffalo's talented receiver Stefon Diggs, who has 20 catches for 236 yards and 2 touchdowns so far this year. On the other side of the ball, the Bills will undoubtedly try to get the ball in the hands of their own rookie, running back Zach Moss. Moss has split time with Devin Singletary so far, but he's looked explosive when given the opportunity. If he can break a big play or two, it could help give Buffalo the edge they need to come out on top.

Overall, this should be a highly competitive game between two teams looking to make noise in the AFC playoff picture. Both the Bills and Broncos have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, and it'll be fascinating to see how they match up against one another. Which quarterback will come out on top? Will either defense be able to shut down the opposing offense? Tune in to Monday Night Football to find out.
