Monday Night Football Season 38 Episode 3 Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles

  • September 17, 2007

The highly anticipated matchup between the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles is finally here, as the two NFC East rivals face off on Monday Night Football for season 38 episode 3. Both teams enter the game with something to prove, as the Redskins look to bounce back from their Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys while the Eagles hope to build on their Week 2 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

The Redskins offense, led by quarterback Case Keenum, will be looking to put up big numbers against the stout Eagles defense. Keenum has been solid so far this season, completing nearly 70 percent of his passes for 601 yards and five touchdowns. He'll have plenty of weapons at his disposal, including veteran running back Adrian Peterson and wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who has emerged as one of the NFL's top rookies with 187 receiving yards and two touchdowns through two games.

But the Eagles defense will be no easy task for the Redskins offense. Led by star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox and shutdown cornerback Ronald Darby, Philadelphia's defense has allowed just 32 points through two games while forcing four turnovers. The Eagles will also be buoyed by the return of defensive end Derek Barnett, who missed last week's game with an ankle injury.

On the other side of the ball, Philadelphia's offense will be looking to continue their strong performance from Week 2. Quarterback Carson Wentz bounced back from a shaky Week 1 performance with a solid outing against the Falcons, throwing for 231 yards and one touchdown. He'll be looking to build on that performance against a Redskins defense that has struggled so far this season.

One key matchup to watch will be Eagles tight end Zach Ertz against the Redskins secondary. Ertz has been one of the NFL's top tight ends over the past few seasons, and he'll be looking to take advantage of a Washington defense that has allowed five touchdowns to tight ends through two games.

Overall, this promises to be a closely contested game between two bitter rivals. Both teams are looking to establish themselves as contenders in the NFC East, and a win on Monday night could go a long way towards achieving that goal. Expect a physical, hard-fought game that goes down to the wire.
