Monkey See Monkey Do is a children's television series from PBS that debuted in 2010. The show features a group of curious and playful creatures dubbed 'the monkey ninjas'. The 'monkey ninjas' are a team of nine primates that live in a vibrant jungle setting and embark on adventures in each episode. The show's primary focus is on animals, science, and nature. The series is aimed at children aged 2-5 years old and attempts to teach them about nature and the world around them through fun and engaging storytelling.

The show is hosted by a human presenter named Dr. Bunhead, who introduces the monkeys and explains the concepts being explored in each episode. Dr. Bunhead is a science educator, author, performer, and comedy writer. He serves as an expert in the field of science communication and specializes in creating content that is both entertaining and educational.

Each episode of Monkey See Monkey Do follows a simple structure; firstly, the monkeys play and explore, then they encounter a new animal, and finally, they learn something new about that animal. The show covers a broad range of themes, including animal behavior, animal habitats, food chains, and the unique characteristics of different animal species. Along the way, the monkeys interact with other creatures and learn new skills.

One of the unique features of the show is its use of puppetry, live-action film, and animation. The monkey ninjas are puppets made by the Jim Henson Company, the same studio behind the Muppets. The use of puppetry allows the monkeys to interact with real-world objects in a relatable way, and the inclusion of live-action footage and animation helps to illustrate complex concepts and make learning fun.

The show is designed to be interactive, with Dr. Bunhead asking open-ended questions, making observations, and encouraging children to explore the world around them. Aimed at a demographic that is still in the early stages of language learning, the show emphasizes simple vocabulary and repetition to help build language skills. Additionally, there is an ongoing storyline throughout the series, which helps to keep children engaged and provides a continuity across episodes.

One of the key strengths of Monkey See Monkey Do is its accessibility for young children. The show is designed to be visually appealing, with bright, bold colors and playful characters that are specifically designed to capture the attention of young viewers. Furthermore, the use of the monkey ninjas as the central characters makes the show relatable to its target audience, helping young children connect with the animals and concepts being taught.

Another advantage of Monkey See Monkey Do is its focus on science education. The show aims to teach young viewers about natural history and biology in a fun and engaging way. By featuring animals from around the world, as well as exploring their unique characteristics and behaviors, the show helps children develop an interest in nature and the world around them. Furthermore, by using open-ended questions and encouraging exploration, the show promotes critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for later academic and personal success.

Overall, Monkey See Monkey Do is an engaging and educational show that is specifically designed for young children. Through its use of playful characters, puppetry, live-action, and animation, the show teaches children about animals, nature, and science in a fun and relatable way. The show is further aided by its interactive format, which encourages children to explore and learn about the world around them. For parents looking for a show that is both educational and entertaining for their children, Monkey See Monkey Do is an excellent choice.
