In the third episode of season 2 of Monsters Inside Me, entitled "Cold Blooded Killers," viewers are taken on a fascinating yet terrifying journey into the world of parasites. Specifically, this episode explores cases where parasites have invaded the human body and turned it into their own personal playground.

The episode begins with the story of a young girl named Kayla who suddenly becomes very ill, experiencing extreme abdominal pain and vomiting. Initially, doctors mistake her symptoms for a stomach bug or food poisoning. However, as her condition worsens, it becomes clear that something much more serious is going on. After a battery of tests, doctors finally discover that Kayla has contracted a rare type of tapeworm known as the pork tapeworm. This parasite has infected her brain, and if left untreated, it could kill her.

Next, the show delves into the story of a man named Doug who is bitten by a tick while hiking in the woods. Initially, he doesn't think much of it and doesn't even bother to remove the tick. However, within a few days, he begins experiencing strange symptoms such as muscle weakness and fatigue. Eventually, he is diagnosed with Lyme disease, a bacterial infection that is transmitted through tick bites. Although Lyme disease can be treated with antibiotics, if left untreated, it can result in long-term health problems.

The third story featured in this episode involves a woman named Chrissy who suddenly experiences flu-like symptoms with a high fever and chills. After multiple visits to the doctor and several misdiagnoses, she is finally diagnosed with malaria. This parasitic infection is transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes and is most commonly found in tropical regions of the world. Chrissy had recently traveled to Africa, and it is likely that she contracted the disease during her travels.

Finally, the show tells the story of a man named David who develops a mysterious rash all over his body. At first, doctors think he may be having an allergic reaction to something, but when the rash persists and spreads, they begin to suspect that he may have contracted a parasitic infection. After multiple tests, they discover that David has a condition called cutaneous larva migrans. This occurs when hookworm larvae enter the skin and create a trail under the surface of the skin, causing intense itching and irritation.

Throughout the episode, viewers are shown footage of the parasites themselves and given detailed explanations of how each one of them operates within the human body. Experts are also interviewed to provide additional context and insight into these fascinating but terrifying creatures.

Overall, "Cold Blooded Killers" is a gripping episode that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats. From the mysterious rash to the tick bite, to the rare tapeworm, and the malaria, the show explores a wide range of medical cases that highlight just how vulnerable we are to these tiny invaders. Even if you think you're safe from parasites, you may be surprised to learn just how easy it is to get infected and how devastating the consequences can be.
