Music and the Spoken Word is a weekly television and radio program produced by Bonneville Communications that has been entertaining audiences globally for over seven decades. The show stars The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, Orchestra at Temple Square and Lloyd Newell who became the voice of the show in 1990. The program uses music, commentary and spoken word to remind the audience of the beauty of the world and the importance of faith and family.

The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, established in 1847, is one of the most well-known choral ensembles in the world, and has performed for numerous dignitaries and at significant events, including the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. The Choir comprises of 360 members, who are all volunteers, and they sing everything from classical music to contemporary pieces.

The Orchestra at Temple Square is an equally talented group of musicians that was established in 1999 as a companion ensemble to The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. The Orchestra is made up of 85 members who all volunteer their time to play music that complements the choir's singing.

Lloyd Newell serves as the announcer for the show and has been with Music and the Spoken Word for more than three decades. He prepares messages that help the audience draw inspiration from the musical performances, as well as share stories of hope, faith, and love.

The show begins each week with the choir and orchestra performing classical or contemporary music that ranges from a single hymn to an entire piece. The performances are always breathtaking and uplifting, as the choir harmonizes to produce a sound distinct to The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.

Lloyd Newell's spoken word segment comes next, where he shares a message with the audience that speaks to the theme of the week. His messages are always positive, uplifting and encourage the audience to find joy and meaning in their lives and especially during difficult times.

Music and the Spoken Word airs in over 58 countries and is translated into more than 20 languages, making it a global phenomenon. It is the longest-running continuous network broadcast in the world and has received numerous awards, including three Emmy Awards.
