Ep 3. Blood Drive

Ethan Morgan is too eager to take out his newly earned driving permit when Sarah, who is his best friend, reminds him of their upcoming blood drive that they must attend. Though it may sound like a mere inconvenience to Ethan, Sarah knows better than to let him suffer the consequences of not attending the blood drive. As vampires, they’re already susceptible to low blood sugar and skipping a blood drive would only make it worse.

While the two kids head into Whitechaple’s bloodmobile, Benny is left without a ride, prompting him to take up babysitting duties for Jane Morgan, the precocious younger sister of Ethan. After batting his eyes at her and calming her nerves with a joke, Benny learns of a legend that haunts their neighborhood – the Whitechapel Wiper, a soul rumored to terrorize the neighborhood during their annual blood drive.

As Ethan and Sarah go through the routine paperwork, the blood drive volunteer asks them if they are siblings, closer than they imagine but best friends, to which they must explain the struggles involved. Benny's mother encourages him to socialize with other people via texts, which leaves him distracted throughout his babysitting job. Jane takes notice and tunes out Benny's voice as she tries to build a complex tower out of building blocks.

Meanwhile, Erica and Rory experiment with drugs and hypnotism, trying to get Rory's sister Erica under control. After a few moments of playing with a toy hypnotizing pendulum, Rory and Erica conclude that they've managed to successfully hypnotize Jane into doing their bidding. Rory instructs Jane to complete a complicated card trick in order to practice his newfound power. It's not until Benny shows up to the Morgan home that he realizes something's amiss with Jane.

Ethan and Sarah try to hide the fact that they're vampires from the health technician, which proves to be a difficult task when Ethan becomes jumpy around the sight of a needle. Sarah, a much older and mature vampire, notes that she's practically immune to needle pricks and sits patiently for the procedures to go through. Ethan's lack of experience leads to hilarious banter between them, and they successfully complete the blood drive with little incident.

That is, until they come up against the Whitechapel Wiper. At first, they think it's just a legend, but after spotting the bandit and his motorcycle, Ethan quickly rolls up the window and tells Sarah to take the wheel. A high-speed chase ensues, with the Wiper in pursuit, leading Ethan and Sarah through garbage cans and past other vehicles whilst John Carpenter's "Halloween" theme music blares in the background.

The episode wraps up with Jane revealing to Benny about Rory and Erica's dark, supernatural secret and the conclusion of the subplot involving hypnosis, leaving Benny rivetingly curious for the next episode of My Babysitter's a Vampire.
