Ep 7. Greek Tragedy

In the season 5 episode 7 of Mystery Diners titled Greek Tragedy, restaurant owners Chris and Tim of My Greek and Italian Kitchen in Connecticut suspect their manager, Paul, is taking advantage of their absence by running an illegal sports betting operation within the establishment. The owner's concerns are not unfounded; his concern is validated when he learns that his staff members and customers are making bets within his business place. With potential legal and financial consequences on the line, Chris and Tim reach out to their comrade, Charles Stiles, for help.

As always, Stiles and his team of Mystery Diners conduct undercover surveillance using hidden cameras, wireless microphones, and other various detection devices, to expose the illegal sports betting operations taking place in the kitchen. Charles Stiles, clad in disguises, enters as a sports enthusiast and is quickly introduced to the manager Paul by the waitstaff. Stiles also meets with the kitchen staff and places a sizeable bet, all under the watchful eye of Mystery Diners' team. These interactions provide incriminating evidence that Paul is indeed running an illegal sports betting operation within the restaurant's premises.

Charles and his team gather more data, continuing their covert operation by interviewing customers who admit to placing bets with Paul in exchange for complimentary food and drinks. Further, they discover Paul is using produce and other raw materials for his own catering business, causing a reduction in stock and affecting the restaurant's inventory. The Mystery Diners team also noticed the kitchen staff using the private dining area for their personal use, which is resulting in the loss of business.

Additionally, after reviewing footage and observing suspicious activities, the team identifies a server who is stealing cash from the restaurant's registers. The Mystery Diners compile evidence and present their findings to Chris and Tim, allowing them to take necessary action to fix their restaurant's problems, including firing Paul and the server and restricting the use of private dining, as well as addressing the food and supply shortages experienced.

The episode concludes with celebrations of Chris and Tim's successful intervention with the help of Mystery Diners and their ability to save their business from greedy employees who were only interested in their personal gain at the expense of the restaurant and its patrons. Mystery Diners has done it again, with their expertise successfully helping another business avoid potential devastating consequences.
