Dave, the news director of WNYX radio station, is tasked with finding a new station manager to replace Jimmy James. With Jimmy gone, tensions are high, and the office is a war zone. Dave learns that Bill is in fact not a U.S. citizen, and he needs to figure out how to solve Bill's immigration problem. Meanwhile, Matthew has a problem on his hands when his only photo of him and his deceased father is ruined. He's forced to come to terms with his dad's death and make amends with his mother.

Catherine makes a shocking revelation about her past when the staff at NewsRadio decides to play "What Would You Do?" - a game where they reveal what they would do in morally ambiguous situations. The staff asks rhetorical questions like: "If a homeless person offers to sell you a rare coin for one dollar, and you know it's worth a lot of money, what do you do?" or "If someone left their wallet behind in your cab, what would you do?". Catherine comes up with a question that cuts to the core: "If there was a mugger on the street, and you had a gun, would you kill them?" The staff is taken aback, it's clear that Catherine is serious. She reveals that she had a traumatizing experience with a mugger, and the reason why she joined the police force was to make sure that terrible things like that don't happen to other people. She says that she believes in the death penalty, and would have no hesitation in shooting a mugger.

This leads to a heated argument between Catherine and the rest of the staff about capital punishment. Dave, as usual, tries to act as a mediator, but it's clear that the situation is out of his control. As the argument intensifies, Matthew, who didn't know that Catherine was a cop, realizes that he, too, has a criminal record. This leads to a confessional moment, where he tells the staff about his juvenile delinquency days, and how he and his dad used to rob vending machines together. This news earns Matthew the respect of his colleagues, but it also makes him question his relationship with his father.

Meanwhile, Bill tries to avoid being deported by enlisting the help of his old friend, the crooked Congressman Richard Drew. Drew agrees to help him out, but only if Bill does him a favor: steal the declaration of independence from a museum. Bill, who is an ardent fan of Nicolas Cage movies, is not thrilled about the idea, but he agrees to do it nonetheless. This leads to a hilarious heist sequence, where Bill, disguised as a security guard, tries to steal the document by using a vacuum cleaner. Things don't go as planned, and he ends up getting caught by the police. He later tells Dave that he's okay with going back to his native country, because at least he tried to fight for his dream.

In the end, everyone learns a valuable lesson about the importance of sticking together in times of crisis. Even though they may disagree about certain things, they all know that they belong to a family, and that family will always have their back. The episode ends on a heartwarming note, as the staff gathers around to hear a touching story from Dave about his grandfather, who was also a news director, and how he taught him to be a good leader. The staff cheers, and Dave takes a moment to reflect on the beautiful chaos that is WNYX.
