Ep 7. Edison's Monstrous Creation

In season 2 episode 7 of Oddities, entitled "Edison's Monstrous Creation," the owners of Obscura Antiques & Oddities, Mike and Evan, are on the hunt for unique and bizarre items to add to their collection.

The episode begins with Mike and Evan scouring a junkyard in search of one-of-a-kind finds. Their attention is drawn to a massive metal object that looks like a giant octopus. The junkyard owner reveals that it was actually created by famed inventor Thomas Edison as a means of testing electrical current. Mike and Evan immediately purchase the strange contraption and bring it back to their shop to determine its value and history.

At the shop, the team is joined by new employee Ryan, who is eager to learn more about the world of oddities. They examine the Edison creation and discover that it is a galvanometer, a device used to measure electrical current in the 1800s. They also uncover some interesting information about Edison's backstory and the significance of this particular creation.

Meanwhile, customer Laura brings in a unique piece of taxidermy - a carrot-nosed rat that she found in her backyard. Although it's not the rarest item the shop has seen, the team is still fascinated by the unusual sight of a furry rodent with a bright orange carrot poking out of its face. They determine that it would make for a great conversation starter in someone's home and decide to put it up for sale.

Later on, a man named Brian comes into the shop in search of a gift for his friend's birthday. He is particularly interested in the more macabre items in the store, and Mike shows him a taxidermy goat head that has been transformed into a haunting piece of art by being adorned with flowers and glitter. Despite the high price tag, Brian is drawn to the unique nature of the piece and ultimately decides to purchase it for his friend.

Throughout the episode, the shop owners and employees also deal with the everyday challenges of running a business, including organizing the stock room and keeping up with customer demand. Ryan struggles with his first sales pitch and worries that he's not cut out for the job, but ultimately rises to the challenge and sells a vintage medical device to a happy customer.
