Peacemaker is an anime television series from TV Asahi that aired from 2003 to 2004. The show follows the story of 15-year-old Tetsunosuke Ichimura, who dreams of joining the Shinsengumi, a special police force that protects Japan during the Bakumatsu period. The Bakumatsu period is a historical era that took place in Japan during the late 19th century.

Tetsunosuke's family was killed by bandits a year ago, and he blames himself for not being able to protect them. He believes that if he joins the Shinsengumi, he will be able to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to avenge his family. However, things don't go as planned for Tetsunosuke.

After meeting Captain Souji Okita, one of the leaders of the Shinsengumi, Tetsunosuke is shocked to learn that the organization is not the noble group he thought it was. Rather than uphold justice, the Shinsengumi is rife with corruption, as some members use their power for personal gain. Despite this, Tetsunosuke is determined to become a member and help protect Japan.

Throughout the series, Tetsunosuke faces numerous trials and obstacles he must overcome to prove himself. His journey is not an easy one, as he must confront his own fears and face the truth about the Shinsengumi.

The other characters in the show are well-developed and have their own unique personalities. The characters that stand out the most are the ones that serve as Tetsunosuke's mentors, including Captain Souji Okita and Vice-Commander Toshizou Hijikata.

Captain Okita is a skilled warrior and one of the most respected members of the Shinsengumi. Despite his reputation, he is kind to Tetsunosuke and takes him under his wing. Okita's calm and collected demeanor is a stark contrast to Hijikata's brash and short temper.

Hijikata is the vice-commander of the Shinsengumi, and his personality complements Okita's. He is tough on Tetsunosuke but has his best interests at heart. Hijikata can be intimidating, but he is ultimately a kind and honorable leader.

Another character who plays a significant role in the show is Saya, Tetsunosuke's sister. Although she is deceased when the show begins, her memory is a driving force for Tetsunosuke. He wants to avenge her death and uphold her memory by joining the Shinsengumi.

The animation style of Peacemaker is typical of anime from the early 2000s. The characters are designed to resemble their historical counterparts, and the backgrounds are detailed and well-drawn. The action scenes are well-choreographed and thrilling to watch.

The soundtrack of the show is excellent and complements the action perfectly. The opening theme song, "You Gonna Feel," is an upbeat track that gets viewers pumped up for the show's action-packed scenes. The closing theme, "Hey Jimmy," is a more somber track that captures the show's more emotional moments.

Overall, Peacemaker is an excellent anime show that balances action, drama, and humor well. Its well-developed characters and interesting plot keep viewers engaged and on the edge of their seats. The historical context adds depth to the show, making it both entertaining and informative. The show is highly recommended for fans of historical fiction and action anime.
