Recorder and Randsell is a Japanese anime television series based on a four-panel manga series created by Meme Higashiya. The series consists of three seasons, each with a total of thirteen short episodes that are around three minutes long. The show follows the lives of two siblings, Atsushi Miyagawa, and his older sister Atsumi Miyagawa. Atsushi is an elementary school student who is too short for his age, and his elder sister, Atsumi, is a high school student who is too tall for her age. The pair, with their height differences, attract the attention of everyone around them, making it hard for them to lead normal lives.

Atsushi is a fourth-grader who is only 123 centimeters tall, and his height often leads to him being mistaken for a kindergartener. He has a habit of carrying around a recorder, which he plays when he's bored. Atsumi, on the other hand, is a 17-year-old high school student, but she stands at an enormous 180 centimeters tall, making her the tallest person in her school. As a result, Atsumi has established a reputation for herself and is often cited as an imposing and unusual figure.

Despite their age difference, Atsushi is often the more responsible one, while Atsumi can be quite childlike at times. However, there are instances where Atsumi displays her maturity, offering her brother guidance and support when he needs it most. The show follows the day-to-day activities of the two siblings, as they navigate their way through life together, overcoming the awkward and unusual situations their height differences create.

The first season mainly focuses on Atsushi and Atsumi's daily activities at school and at home. The show highlights their interactions with their teachers, friends, and family members, showcasing the duo's unique perspectives on life. Atsushi's obsession with his recorder and Atsumi’s height are significant plot points throughout the season and serve to fuel much of the humor.

In the second season, the show slightly shifts its focus to the struggles of adolescence. It explores the characters' interactions with their peers and the difficulties that come with growing up. Atsushi begins to develop a crush on a girl in his class, while Atsumi's popularity and height start to become more of a nuisance. The season also features a few more characters and introduces a rival school that tests Atsumi's insecurities.

The third and final season of Recorder and Randsell reinforces the themes presented in the previous season. It focuses on the struggles of the teenage years, from finding a job to pursuing a college education. Atsumi is graduating from high school and must figure out her future, while Atsushi enters a new school and must confront new challenges while getting used to his new surroundings.

The show's animation is relatively conventional and employs a minimalist style that complements the show's short episode runtime. Rie Kugimiya, who voiced Alphonse Elric in Full Metal Alchemist, voices Atsumi in the series. Her high-pitched voice contrasts well with Atsumi's imposing height, making for a striking dynamic. The other voice actors also add depth to the characters, bringing out the humor and quirks that make the show so appealing.

In conclusion, Recorder and Randsell is a light-hearted and charming series that packs humour and heart in its short episodes. The show's unique premise sets it apart from other comedies, and the character-driven episodes are entertaining throughout. With a great cast of voice actors, endearing animation, and a wonderfully strange concept, Recorder and Randsell is a show that is hard not to enjoy.

Recorder and Randsell is a series that is currently running and has 3 seasons (51 episodes). The series first aired on January 5, 2012.
