Road No.1 is a historical drama series set during the Korean War. The show revolves around the two main characters, Lee Jang-woo (played by So Ji-sub) and Kim Soo-yeon (played by Kim Ha-neul), who come from very different backgrounds. Jang-woo is a military officer and the son of a high-ranking general, while Soo-yeon is the daughter of a poor farmer. Despite their different social statuses, the two fall in love and their story takes center stage throughout the series.

The show also delves into the political and military landscape of post-World War II Korea, as the country struggled to rebuild itself and navigate the turbulent times of the Korean War. The conflict and its aftermath serve as a backdrop to Jang-woo and Soo-yeon's love story, as well as the struggles of other characters who are affected by the war.

One such character is Baek Gun-woo (played by Yoon Kye-sang), a North Korean soldier who becomes disillusioned with the Communist cause and defects to the South. He is eventually brought into Jang-woo's unit as a valuable asset and struggles to find his place in a foreign army.

Meanwhile, Jang-woo's father, Lee Byung-jin (played by Choi Min-soo), is a key figure in the military command structure and struggles to balance his duty to his country with his love for his son. He clashes with a fellow general, Kim Jin-seok (played by Jang Min-Ho), who has his own ambitions and sees Jang-woo as a threat.

The supporting cast includes other soldiers in Jang-woo's unit, such as Park Mu-young (played by Bool-am Choi), who provides comic relief with his antics and banter with his fellow soldiers.

The series also explores the role of women during the war, with Soo-yeon and her mother (played by Kim Young-ae) representing the struggles of civilians caught in the middle of the conflict. Soo-yeon becomes a nurse and works in a military hospital, where she sees firsthand the horrors of war.

Despite the serious subject matter, Road No.1 also has moments of levity and romance, particularly with Jang-woo and Soo-yeon's relationship. The two share a deep connection and are often separated by the war, leading to emotional reunions and heart-wrenching goodbyes.

Overall, Road No.1 is a well-crafted historical drama with strong performances from its cast and a compelling story that sheds light on a pivotal moment in Korean history.
