Rob Reiner, the director of the iconic mockumentary "This Is Spinal Tap" and the son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, hosts the third episode of the first season of "Saturday Night Live" alongside musical guest Joe Cocker.

The episode opens with a parody of the "Sesame Street" theme song, featuring the "Saturday Night Live" cast members as various depressed and disillusioned adults. Reiner then takes the stage for his monologue, which includes a running gag involving a blackboard and an absurdly long equation.

The first sketch is a recurring bit called "Samurai Delicatessen," in which John Belushi plays a samurai chef who struggles to cook while wielding a sword. The sketch is notable for its use of physical comedy and Belushi's exaggerated expressions.

Next up is a skit called "The Continental," in which Reiner plays a suave and sleazy man who tries to seduce women in his apartment. The sketch is shot entirely from the perspective of the woman he is trying to woo, and features some clever camera work and Reiner's charming (albeit creepy) performance.

Other sketches in the episode include a fake ad for a board game called "Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots," a mock press conference with Reiner as President Nixon, and a parody of the TV show "Emergency!" in which the characters are replaced by bumbling morons.

In between sketches, Joe Cocker takes the stage to perform three songs: "Feelin' Alright," "Put Out The Light," and "I've Been Loving You Too Long."

The show closes with a segment called "Weekend Update," featuring Chevy Chase as the news anchor and a panel of guests who comment on current events. This episode's guests include Reiner as himself and Laraine Newman as a woman who claims to be sending messages to space aliens.

Overall, the third episode of "Saturday Night Live" is a strong entry in the show's first season, featuring a mix of classic skits and memorable musical performances. Rob Reiner proves to be a capable host, able to hold his own alongside the talented cast of comedians, while Joe Cocker delivers his trademark soulful vocals.
