Margot Robbie, known for her roles in "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "Suicide Squad," graced the Saturday Night Live stage to host the season 42 premiere alongside musical guest, The Weeknd.

The episode kicked off with a political cold open, spoofing the recent presidential election. Alec Baldwin reprised his role as Donald Trump, joined by Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton. The segment included jabs at both candidates' controversies and ended with a message urging viewers to go out and vote.

Robbie's monologue showed off her comedic chops, with a bit about how she's mistaken for other blonde actresses in Hollywood. She was joined by fellow Australians and SNL alums, Tina Fey and Nicole Kidman, who jokingly offered to teach her the ways of hosting the show.

Next up was a clever sketch that poked fun at the popular app Uber and its sometimes questionable drivers. Robbie played a clueless passenger matched with a driver (Kenan Thompson) who doesn't quite know how the app works. As the ride gets weirder and weirder, Robbie's character can't help but question if the driver is even an actual Uber driver.

The show also tackled the recent controversy surrounding Wells Fargo and their fraudulent accounts scandal. The sketch was a fake ad for the bank, featuring Beck Bennett as a smooth-talking spokesperson trying to sell customers on the bank's dishonest practices.

The Weekend's performances were a highlight of the episode. He first performed "Starboy," the lead single from his upcoming album, with a stunning light show and backup dancers. Later in the show, he returned to perform "False Alarm."

The most memorable sketch of the night featured Robbie as a robot who becomes too human-like for her creators' comfort. The sketch was a spoof of the popular sci-fi show Westworld, in which humanoid robots cater to wealthy guests in a futuristic theme park. Robbie's performance as a robot who wants to experience human emotions was both hilarious and relatable.

The episode also included a Weekend Update segment, with Colin Jost and Michael Che delivering their comedic takes on current events. This week's segment included jokes about the presidential race, the recent protests in Charlotte, and a touching tribute to the late Gene Wilder.

Other sketches included a sending-up of the recent trend of live-action Disney movies (reimagining Bambi as a gritty cop drama), and a pre-taped sketch about a group of friends who can't help but break into song in the middle of mundane conversations.

Overall, the season 42 premiere of Saturday Night Live was a strong start to the season, with Margot Robbie proving herself to be a capable and funny host, and The Weeknd delivering two memorable performances. The sketches were varied and the jokes were sharp, making it clear that the long-running sketch series still has plenty of life left in it.
