Description:

Savage U is a sex-advice talk show on the MTV network. This late night program, hosted by columnist and author Dan Savage, travels to college campuses around the country and offers students a chance to get help with relationship dilemmas and problems. Savage has been offering advice in his popular syndicated column Savage Love for 20 years. He's been a prominent voice for alternative lifestyles, gay rights, sex education and open dialogue about every kind of life choice. He recently made national news with his "It Gets Better project" on YouTube. After a number of teen suicides brought on high school bullying, Savage and his husband Terry invited other LGBT adults to post videos on the web channel to let targeted kids know that the life would get better and to hold on a little longer.

On Savage U, Dan and his producer Lauren Hutchinson visit students that need some help sorting out their romantic lives and life choices. The program includes a Question & Answer forum, where students can anonymously pose a question, as well as one-on-one sessions that allow more in-depth exploration of a problem. Many of the college kids are troubled with everyday issues like How do I get her to see me as more than a friend? or How do I know if he likes me? Known for his open-minded approach to sex and lifestyle, no topic is off-limits for Savage. He gives the majority of the counseling, but producer Lauren also adds her opinion from the female perspective and when she disagrees with Dan's take on a situation.

Each week, a different college campus hosts the show. So far, episodes have included visits to the University of Maryland, University of Oregon, Rhodes College, UC Irvine, and Tulane University. The 30-minute program is best suited to mature audiences due to the taboo subjects students sometimes raise, including sexual issues, fetishes and kinks. Savage explained his reason for producing the show, By talking candidly, we're letting our audience make their own informed choices and feel empowered to seek out what's right for them."
