Secret Girlfriend is a unique take on television comedy, as it places you in the hot seat as the main character in the show. Being the brainchild of big time cable network Comedy Central, it has the typical hyperactive comedic dialogue, sexy overtones, and generation next style characters that the network is know well for.

The show centers around the viewer, who is understood to be the lead actor and the support casting follows their exploits throughout daily activities. The show was first tested as an online series of videos by creators Ross Novie and Jay Rondot. The idea seemed to workout, so the television version of Secret Girlfriend was put through recasting and editing into a half hour program for cable television. There are two sections within each episode, each lasting approximately eleven minutes in length.

The show is shot from camera angles, cell phone streaming, and laptop Skype telecommunications. This factor was not received well by many critics, but this was perhaps more because of the teenage level of the humor and how it portrayed its women characters.

The cast of characters surrounding you in daily life are believable, if a bit overly stereotypical. First in line are Phil and Sam, your two best friends played by Derek Miller and Michael Blaiklock. Phil and Sam are roommates, love video production, and are the vehicle by which your life goes viral each week. Both are living vicariously through your world, but mostly because you have ex-girlfriends, current love interests, and the occasional friend that is female around. All this opposes hard luck Phil and Sam generally have with the opposite sex.

These are the women in your life. Mandy is your ex-girlfriend and resident sociopath, played by Alexis Krause. Sara E.R. Fletcher is your current female comrade and potential love interest, she is played by Jessica Johnson. Also there is Martina the hot neighborhood chick, Sasha the lesbian gal pal of Jessica, and Cassidy the girlfriend of Sasha.

The reviews were harsh and viewers are encouraged to give the show a watch, before justifying anything said by the mainstream critics blindly. Overall the episodes of Secret Girlfriend have shown a lot of potential, if the show goes on to expand itself in the future.
