Shark is an American legal drama that aired on the CBS television network in the mid-2000s. The program revolves around defense attorney Sebastian Stark, portrayed by James Woods. After one of his cases ends in a shocking outcome for his client, Stark becomes disillusioned with his job at a private law firm. Quitting, he agrees to take a position with the Los Angeles District Attorney's office as director of their high profile crime unit.
One of the first things he needs to do is build a team of lawyers for the unit. For this he brings on a mix of personalities. One of the first is Madeleine Poe (Sarah Carter), a high-conviction DA who volunteers to be part of Stark's team. Other associate DAs who join the high profile crime unit are the belligerent Raina Troy (Sophina Brown) and gang-crime unit transfer Danny Reyes (Kevin Alejandro). Completing his team are former LAPD officer Isaac Wright (Henry Simmons) and District Attorney Jessica Devlin (Jeri Ryan). Devlin is Stark's boss for the first season of the series, but becomes a senior member of his team when she loses an election.
While investigating high profile crimes at the office, Stark deals with domestic issues at home in the form of his daughter Julie (Danielle Panabaker). Deciding to stay with her father after his divorce, Julie provides the moral compass for Stark even while she struggles with dilemmas of her own. This includes being suspended from school for alleged plagiarism and deciding to take the next romantic steps with her boyfriend without talking to her father about it.
