Silverwing is a Canadian animated television series produced by Silverwing TV Inc. and premiered on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 2003. It is a 13-episode adaptation of the novel Silverwing, by Kenneth Oppel, and follows the adventures of a young Silverwing bat named Shade, voiced by Bill Switzer.

The story is set in a dark world of nocturnal creatures where animals come alive after dark. Shade is a curious and adventurous young bat who longs to see the sun. However, his curiosity often gets him into trouble, and when he breaks a taboo of his community, he is banished from his colony. Along with several other bats, Shade embarks on a dangerous journey, full of obstacles and enemies, in order to find a new home.

The cast includes some of the best voice actors in the industry such as Sharon Alexander, Richard Newman, Pam Hyatt, Matt Hill, Ian James Corlett, Richard Ian Cox, Lee Tockar, and Stevie Vallance. The characters are brought to life with their exceptional voice acting and bring depth to their respective characters.

One notable aspect of the show is its gorgeous animation, which is both visually stunning and unique. The animation is done in a style of its own, using a mixture of 2D and 3D animation. The show's creators have masterfully managed to create a dark and atmospheric world where the characters move gracefully through the air. The moments of flight are particularly breathtaking, as the bats soar through the sky with skill and grace.

Another great aspect of the show is its attention to detail. The world is populated with a variety of creatures, each with their own unique abilities and dangers. The writers have clearly done their research and have created a world that feels fully realized and full of life.

The show also has a strong environmental message, which adds a layer of depth and relevance to the story. As the bats journey through different environments, they encounter various human-made hazards such as pollution and deforestation. The show's themes of conservation and protecting the environment are subtly woven into the narrative and help to give the show a deeper purpose.

Overall, Silverwing is a beautifully animated and engaging show that will appeal to viewers of all ages. Its unique animation style, strong voice acting, attention to detail, and powerful environmental message make it an enduring classic. Whether you're a fan of animated TV shows or you're simply looking for good storytelling, Silverwing is worth checking out.
