So You Think You Can Dance is a reality television show that premiered on FOX in 2005. The show features a variety of talented dancers from across the United States who compete in various styles of dance to determine who is the best all-around dancer in the country. The show is hosted by the charming and energetic Cat Deeley, with judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy providing their professional opinions on the performances.

The format of the show provides a platform for dancers to showcase their unique talents and versatility. The initial stages of the show consist of auditions, where dancers perform in front of the judges and attempt to impress them with their skills. The judges then select a group of dancers to move on to the next stage, known as the "Academy." In the Academy, dancers receive training in different dance styles and are given an opportunity to showcase their versatility and adaptability. The judges then choose a select group of dancers to move on to the final stage of the competition - the live shows.

Throughout the live shows, the contestants perform various styles of dance, including hip-hop, contemporary, jazz, ballroom, and more. Each week, the dancers are teamed up with a different partner and must learn a new routine in a different style of dance. The performances are then critiqued by the judges, who provide feedback on technical ability, performance quality, and overall performance. The audience at home also plays a crucial role in the show's outcome, as they are given the chance to vote for their favorite dancers and keep them in the competition.

The show is known for its high-energy performances and emotional moments. The dancers often tell personal stories through their performances, showcasing their struggles and triumphs through the art of dance. The judges and host are also known for their emotional reactions to the dancers' performances, often shedding tears of joy or sadness depending on the content of the routine. This emotional connection between the dancers, judges, and audience adds a layer of intimacy and connection to the show that is not often found in other reality television programs.

Over the years, the show has featured a variety of dancers who have gone on to become incredibly successful in the entertainment industry. Some of the most famous names that began their careers on So You Think You Can Dance include Twitch, Allison Holker, Travis Wall, and Melanie Moore.
