In South of Nowhere season 2 episode 9, titled "Objects May be Closer Than They Appear," tensions run high as the Carlin family deals with the aftermath of Glen's accident. Ashley struggles with her guilty feelings and tries to distract herself by getting a job at a local coffee shop, but her efforts are fruitless as she finds herself constantly thinking about her ex-girlfriend Spencer and their past relationship.
Meanwhile, Spencer faces her own struggles as she tries to balance her feelings for Ashley with her commitment to her new boyfriend, Aiden. When Aiden invites her to spend the weekend at his family's lake house, Spencer agrees but finds herself feeling out of place among his wealthy and conservative family.
As the weekend progresses, tensions between Spencer and Aiden grow, and she begins to realize that she might have made a mistake. When Ashley unexpectedly shows up at the lake house, tensions come to a head as the three are forced to confront their complicated feelings for each other.
Back in Los Angeles, Clay faces his own demons as he struggles to come to terms with his sexuality. After a night out with friends, Clay finds himself attracted to another man, but his feelings are met with confusion and fear as he grapples with his own identity.
Amidst all the chaos, the Carlin family must come together to support one another and find a way forward. But as secrets are revealed and tensions continue to rise, it remains to be seen whether they will be able to weather the storm and emerge stronger on the other side.
