Star Blazers is an American animated television series that aired from 1979 to 1984. The show was produced by Voyager Entertainment and was dubbed from the original Japanese anime series Space Battleship Yamato. It follows the crew of the spaceship Argo as they embark on a dangerous mission to save the Earth from extinction.

The show takes place in the year 2199, where Earth is involved in a devastating war with an alien race known as the Gamilas. The Gamilas have launched a barrage of radiation bombs at Earth's surface, rendering it uninhabitable. In a desperate attempt to save humanity, the crew of the Argo set out on a journey to the distant planet Iscandar, where they hope to acquire a device that can cleanse the Earth of the radiation.

The main characters of the show include Captain Avatar, voiced by Corinne Orr, who commands the Argo, and his second-in-command, Derek Wildstar, voiced by Jack Grimes. Other crew members include Nova Forrester, voiced by Lydia Leeds, who is responsible for navigation, and Mark Venture, voiced by Peter Fernandez, who is the chief weapons officer. The ship's doctor, Sane, is portrayed by Eddie Allen, and the communications officer, Homer, is voiced by Gordon Ramsey. The character of Analyzer, a robot, is voiced by Morgan Lofting, and the character of Trelaina, a princess from the planet Iscandar, is voiced by Denise Lynn.

The series is notable for its use of serialized storytelling, with each episode building upon the previous one. The show also features a mix of science fiction and drama, with themes of sacrifice, courage, and hope throughout.

The animation of the show is impressive, especially for its time. The spaceships are highly detailed and the action scenes are well choreographed. The show's soundtrack, composed by Hiroshi Miyagawa, is also worth mentioning. The opening theme, "Space Battleship Yamato," is an iconic piece of Japanese music that has been covered by various artists over the years.

One of the unique aspects of the show is its English dubbing. The show was originally in Japanese, but was dubbed into English by Voyager Entertainment. The dubbing team, led by producer Fred Ladd, made several changes to the show's script to make it more accessible to American audiences. The characters' names were changed, and the dialogue was rewritten to remove some of the more Japanese cultural references. Despite these changes, the show's core themes and story remained intact.

Overall, Star Blazers is a classic piece of animation that has stood the test of time. Its engaging storytelling and well-defined characters have made it a favourite among fans of science fiction and animation. With its high production values and memorable soundtrack, it is an essential watch for anyone interested in the genre.

Star Blazers is a series that is currently running and has 3 seasons (89 episodes). The series first aired on January 1, 1979.
