In season 4, episode 8 of Star Trek: The Next Generation, titled "Future Imperfect," the Enterprise receives a distress signal from a nearby planet. A team beams down to investigate and finds an unconscious boy, around the age of 12, who appears to be human. The boy is brought back to the Enterprise for medical treatment, but when he wakes up, he claims that it is actually 16 years in the future and that he has been commanding the ship for the past eight years.

The boy, who identifies himself as Jono, tells Captain Picard that he was on a shuttlecraft with his father when their ship was attacked by the aliens known as the Kazons. His father was killed in the attack, and Jono was taken prisoner. The Kazons brainwashed him and turned him into a soldier, training him to think like them and fight for their cause.

Jono tells the crew that he was eventually able to escape from the Kazons and steal a spaceship. He crash-landed on the planet where the Enterprise found him and has been living there ever since. He claims that he used a device in his ship to create a holographic environment that simulates the Enterprise, and that he has been living there for the past eight years, using it to practice his command skills. Jono explains that the device was damaged, which caused him to lose consciousness and led to the Enterprise discovering him.

Captain Picard is skeptical of Jono's story, but he agrees to take Jono to his supposed home planet to reunite him with his people. However, once they arrive, they discover that Jono's story is not quite what it seems. The crew soon realizes that Jono has been lying to them, and they must figure out the truth before it's too late.

The episode explores themes of identity, loyalty, and the struggle to find one's true place in the world. It also provides a glimpse into the world of the Kazons, an alien race who are known for their aggressive and warlike nature.
