Ep 1. Episode 1

Sungkyunkwan Scandal is a historical drama set in 18th-century Korea during the Joseon Dynasty. The show follows the story of a young woman named Kim Yoon-hee (played by Park Min-young), who disguises herself as a man in order to attend Sungkyunkwan University, a prestigious academy for the country's elite.

In Episode 1, we are introduced to Kim Yoon-hee, who is struggling to make ends meet after the death of her father. She lives with her younger brother, who is ill and unable to work, and her sickly mother. In order to support her family, Yoon-hee does odd jobs and sells books in the marketplace.

The two of them end up at Sungkyunkwan University, where Lee Sun-joon is a student. Yoon-hee is fascinated by the university's beautiful campus and the array of smart, talented students who attend it. She is determined to stay and study there, despite the fact that women are not allowed to attend the institution.

Lee Sun-joon comes up with a plan to help Yoon-hee stay at Sungkyunkwan without anyone finding out her true identity. He convinces her to cut her hair short and dress like a boy, and he offers to tutor her so that she can pass the entrance exam.

Yoon-hee manages to pass the exam with flying colors and is accepted into Sungkyunkwan University as a student. She and Lee Sun-joon become roommates, and she quickly makes friends with two other students, Moon Jae-shin (played by Yoo Ah-in) and Gu Yong-ha (played by Song Joong-ki).

Moon Jae-shin is a mysterious young man who keeps to himself and is rumored to be involved in secret organizations that oppose the government. Gu Yong-ha is a flirty, charming playboy who always seems to be up to something.

As Yoon-hee begins her studies at Sungkyunkwan, she finds herself constantly having to conceal her true gender from her classmates and professors. She is afraid that if anyone finds out her secret, she will be expelled from the university - or worse.

But Yoon-hee is determined to succeed at Sungkyunkwan, both for her own sake and for the sake of her family. She works hard at her studies and quickly becomes one of the top students in her class.

As the episode comes to a close, we see Yoon-hee struggling to keep up her disguise when she is forced to shower with the other students after being caught in the rain. She barely escapes detection, but it's clear that her secret identity will be a constant source of stress and danger throughout her time at Sungkyunkwan.
