Teachers is a British comedy-drama television show created by Tim Loane and directed by Gareth Carrivick. The show follows the personal and professional lives of a group of secondary school teachers working at a fictional comprehensive school in Bristol, England. The main character of the series is Simon Casey, played by Andrew Lincoln. Simon is a charismatic English teacher who is known for his unconventional teaching methods and love of being the center of attention. He is also known for his inability to stay committed to any one woman, which leads to numerous romantic escapades with his fellow teachers and other women in the community.

Alongside Simon, there are several other main characters who work at the school. Brian Steadman, played by Adrian Bower, is a nervous and fussy science teacher who constantly worries about his students and his job security. Susan Gately, played by Raquel Cassidy, is the sensible and organized head of the English department who is constantly trying to keep the other teachers in line. Kurt McKenna, played by Navin Chowdhry, is a laid-back and slightly naive geography teacher who is always looking for new adventures and experiences.

As the series progresses, the teachers face a variety of personal and professional challenges. Simon's romantic exploits often create tension between him and the other teachers, and his unorthodox teaching style puts him at odds with the school's administration. Brian struggles with anxiety and self-doubt, and Susan has to balance her work responsibilities with her duties as a single mother. Kurt tries to find a sense of purpose in his life after his father passes away, while other teachers deal with issues such as bullying, substance abuse, and student pregnancy.

Despite the often serious subject matter of the show, Teachers is primarily a comedy, and it is known for its sharp wit, dry humor, and irreverent attitude towards authority. The show's characters frequently break the fourth wall and make snarky comments about the school administration, the students, and each other. The show also features a number of recurring jokes and catchphrases that have become popular with fans, such as Simon's habit of giving nicknames to his students based on their physical attributes.

One of the strengths of Teachers is its ability to balance humor with more serious themes. While the show is primarily a comedy, it does not shy away from addressing real-world issues such as mental health, domestic violence, and the challenges faced by working women. This gives the show a sense of emotional depth that sets it apart from many other sitcoms.

Another standout element of the show is its soundtrack, which features a mix of classic and contemporary indie rock songs. The music is used to great effect throughout the show, often playing a key role in the emotional resonance of a particular scene. The show's opening theme, an instrumental track by the band Black Box Recorder, is instantly recognizable to fans of the show.

Overall, Teachers is a witty, edgy, and engaging comedy-drama that provides a fresh and irreverent take on the world of secondary education. Its strong cast, sharp writing, and memorable soundtrack make it a must-watch for fans of British television.

Teachers is a series that is currently running and has 4 seasons (59 episodes). The series first aired on March 21, 2001.
