The 2012 finalist were a diverse group of young adults making a change and putting forth an effort in today's society. The winner for 2012 was Katia Gomez who is 24 years old. Educate2Envision is her passion. Katia grew up in a single parent home, and she also knew what poverty meant at a young age. She is determined to allow others to achieve the education they desire. Her program is educating youths in Honduras. The finalist in 2012 award show was Manyang Reath Kher, 23 from Richmond Virgina. His organization Humanity Helping Sudan helps refugees in Sudan. Kher realized that something had to be done in Sudan, and he was determined to make a change. Then there is Meg Bourne, 22 from Joplin, MO. Her program Art Feeds helps victimized and trauma affected youth through art. Meg experienced first hand encounter with tragedy when one of the largest tornadoes destroyed her home.
The Do Something Award honors individuals and an applicant applies alone. This is a unique award show because it takes a special young adult to see a problem and develop a solution to that problem. This award show doesn't limit the young adult project to a specific social cause like hunger, poverty, medical issues, etc. No, this award show encourages and awards a diverse group of young adults for their dedication and achievements in making a change.
