"The Event" ran on NBC, providing science fiction fans who enjoy political thrillers a strong weekly fix. Imagine an alien presence bent on colonizing our planet and pushing humanity aside, and the people who fought them or unwittingly helped. "The Event" had plot twists and turns that kept attentive viewers enthralled, but the ratings fell off and the network ended the run. Producers knew the show wasn't going to be renewed by NBC and tried to tie up some loose ends, but in the end just left fans wanting more.

There were drawbacks to the show. The over-played dimwitted damsel in distress of Sarah Roemer's character Leila Buchanan often grated on the nerves. The plot was sometimes hard to follow for those who didn't provide rapt attention.

There are too many viewing choices for networks to commit the resources required to bring a complicated show to television sets week after week. Several story lines were running at the same time and there were flashbacks incorporated that confused some viewers.

Still, the premise was intriguing and all the parts were there for what was a very good show and could have been even better. "The Event" worked on most levels.

Some of the best action centered around the interplay between those working to help the president, played by Blair Underwood, and those who were allies of the aliens. A favorite character was Vicki Roberts, played by Taylor Cole. The assassin who might save the world was always deep in the action. Vicki would have made a much better love interest for Jason Ritter's Sean Walker role than his girlfriend Leila.

In the end, the series left far more questions to be answered. Not to mention the paradigm shift which would occur after the appearance of the alien home world forced everything to become public.

There was talk "The Event" might be picked up by another network, but so far that hasn't come to fruition. If it does, fans will be clamoring to refresh their memories of the story lines and get ready for new excitement.

The Event is a series that is currently running and has 1 seasons (23 episodes). The series first aired on September 20, 2010.
