Ep 1. Pilot

In the first episode of The Gates, titled "Pilot," viewers are introduced to the exclusive gated community of The Gates. The first scene of the show sets the stage for the mystery and intrigue that will follow, as we watch a man digging a hole in the woods at night, in the pouring rain. After he finishes, he places a box in the hole and covers it up, before he's attacked from behind and dragged away.

The rest of "Pilot" follows Nick Monohan and his family as they move to The Gates, where he has been appointed the new chief of police. Nick's teenage daughter, Charlie, is immediately curious about their new home and the people in it, while his wife, Sarah, is a bit more reserved. They quickly meet their neighbors, including Claire and Dylan Radcliff, who are the wealthiest and most powerful couple in the community, and their teenage son, Brett.

Nick's first day on the job proves to be eventful, as he responds to a call about a missing person in the woods. The victim's car is found abandoned and the search begins, but Nick soon realizes that everyone in The Gates seems to be hiding something.

Meanwhile, Charlie attends her new school where she meets fellow teenager Andie Bates, who she quickly befriends. Andie introduces Charlie to her boyfriend, who Charlie recognizes as the man who attacked the person in the woods. This sets Charlie down a path of investigating the secrets and mysteries of The Gates.

Throughout "Pilot," viewers are given glimpses into the supernatural and otherworldly happenings in the community. From the Radcliffs' apparent immortality to the discovery of a vampire clan living in The Gates, there's no shortage of strange occurrences.

As the episode progresses, Nick becomes increasingly suspicious of the residents of The Gates, as well as the reasons why he was chosen to be the chief of police. Sarah experiences her own strange encounter with the Radcliffs when she's brought to their house for a "welcome dinner."

With enough drama and mystery to keep viewers hooked, "Pilot" sets up what promises to be an exciting season of The Gates. The episode ends with the reveal of the man in the opening scene, who is revealed to be Dylan Radcliff's right-hand man seeking revenge.

Overall, "Pilot" does an excellent job of setting up the show's premise, introducing its characters, and building the foundations for the mysteries that will keep viewers coming back for more.
