Madonna Calls Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' a 'Redo' of 'Express Yourself' Just when you though Madonna-Gagagate was ancient history, it comes up again and we get a whole new look at it. The scandal in question has to do with Gaga's mega-hit "Born This Way," and the fact (yes, fact) that it sounds awfully similar to Madonna's "Express Yourself."

Originally, the one-named hitmaker shrugged it all off, mostly avoiding the topic. Even just last week, she said she thought Gaga was "cool" and reminded her of herself.

But a recent interview with Newsweek tells a different story. In the interview, when asked about Gaga and the two songs, Madonna had some choice words. "I thought, this is an interesting way to redo my song," said the pop icon. "I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was... interesting."

The word "redo" is a pretty big one. That says that Madonna sees "Born This Way" not as an homage, or a song inspired by "Express Yourself," but rather pretty much a cover of it with different lyrics. Not only that, but she used the word "interesting" twice to describe it, and that's about as telling as anything.
