Ep 1. Pilot

In this pilot episode of The Hard Times of RJ Berger, we are introduced to the titular character, a high school student who suffers from extreme social awkwardness and a severe lack of confidence. RJ is an unassuming teenager who doesn't fit in with the popular crowd, but he dreams of one day being noticed by the girls he admires from afar.

As we meet RJ, he is dealing with a particularly rough day at school. He gets called out in front of the entire class by his teacher, the girl he likes barely notices him, and he accidentally hits a fellow student in the face during gym class. Things seem hopeless for RJ, and he can't seem to catch a break.

However, things start to look up for RJ when he discovers a hidden talent that sets him apart from everyone else. After attending a party with his best friend, Miles, RJ ends up hooking up with the most popular girl in school, Jenny Swanson. When Jenny later tells Miles about the encounter, he is incredulous and can't believe that RJ has managed to land such a catch.

But RJ's newfound confidence is short-lived when he realizes that Jenny only wants to keep their encounter a secret. He is crushed and can't help but feel even more invisible than ever before. However, as the episode comes to a close, RJ realizes that he has something special that no one else has - and he decides to use it to his advantage.

The first episode of The Hard Times of RJ Berger is a hilarious and heartfelt journey of self-discovery, as RJ navigates the complex social hierarchy of high school and learns to embrace his unique qualities.
