Ep 23. Dog Shelter

Doug and Carrie decide to volunteer at a local dog shelter to appease Deacon and Kelly, who suggest they do something useful with their free time. While there, Doug falls in love with a golden retriever named Rocky. He becomes very attached to the dog and decides he wants to adopt him. Despite Carrie's objections, Doug persuades Arthur to give him the money to pay for Rocky's adoption fee. Meanwhile, Kelly volunteers to be a dog walker and insists that Deacon accompany her, much to his annoyance. They end up fighting and it takes an unlikely source to resolve their issues. Back at the shelter, Carrie becomes jealous of the attention Doug is giving to Rocky, leading to a discussion about their future as parents. In the end, the couple realizes they are not ready for children, but are happy to have Rocky as a new addition to their family.
