Ep 20. The Greatest Date in the World

Mindy is back in the dating game in season 4 of The Mindy Project, and in episode 20, she's headed out on what she believes will be the greatest date in the world. Mindy has been having a tough time in her love life lately, with her current dalliance with Danny hanging in the balance after his recent confession that he doesn't want to get married.

In an effort to move on, Mindy sets up a date with Neel, a small business owner who shares her love of romantic comedies and all things Harry Potter. Mindy is convinced that Neel is her soulmate, and she's determined to prove it by planning the best date ever.

The date starts off on a high note, with Mindy and Neel strolling through the park and discussing their shared interests. But when Mindy realizes that she forgot to make a reservation at the restaurant where she wanted to take Neel for dinner, things begin to unravel.

Undeterred, Mindy decides to take Neel to a dive bar where they can grab a burger and watch the game on TV. Neel seems to be enjoying himself, but Mindy is mortified when she spots some of her coworkers at the bar and realizes that she's wearing the same outfit she wore to work that day.

Things take a turn for the worse when Mindy accidentally spills ketchup on Neel's shirt. Mortified, she offers to take him to her apartment to clean him up, but when they arrive, they're interrupted by Danny, who is there to pick up some of his belongings.

Danny's presence throws a wrench in Mindy's plans, and things only get worse when Neel reveals that he's not a Harry Potter fan after all, but only pretended to be because he thought it would impress Mindy.

Despite all the setbacks, Mindy is still determined to salvage the date, and she takes Neel to a rooftop bar where she's arranged to have a private screening of their favorite romantic comedy. The screening is a success, and Mindy is convinced that Neel is the one for her.

But when the date comes to an end and Neel tells Mindy that he had a great time but doesn't feel a romantic connection, Mindy is devastated. As she heads home alone, she realizes that her quest for the "greatest date in the world" was misguided, and that what really matters is finding someone who loves her for who she is.

The Mindy Project has always been a show that's unapologetically feminist and refreshingly honest about the challenges of modern dating, and season 4 episode 20 is no exception. Mindy may not have found love on her great date, but she's learned an important lesson about staying true to herself and not getting too caught up in her own fantasies.
