Ep 2. Bound

Cassie Blake continues her adjustment to the newfound Salem Circle and their magical abilities. In episode 2, named Bound, Cassie's deceased mother continues to play a significant role as Cassie discovers a trunk of her belongings in their attic. Disturbingly, Cassie realizes that her mother had been part of a different circle and must have been trying to warn her daughter of something fatal.

Meanwhile, Cassie is confronting her feelings for here next-door neighbour, Adam, who happens to be a witch like herself. But Diana, Adam's girlfriend, has her eyes set on Cassie's father, who is also new in town and heading up investigations on a cursed fire, leaving Cassie questioning everybody's motives.

The episode is packed with a lot of questions of trust and deception. Faye, one of the members of the Secret Circle, continues to be the skeptical character, and though Cassie is appalled by her negative energy, she can't help being attracted to her rebellious nature. Things start to spiral out of control when a party in honour of Cassie at Faye's house goes a little too far.

As the episode winds down, Cassie realises that she may not be able to trust everyone in the circle, and it is the mission of the group to sustain unity. The implication of this mission is weighty as a curse that befalls the group can only be confronted as a united force. Therefore, a rumbling conflict between the circle's members, seeking power and self-interest, must be cleared. Cassie's dilemmas within herself grow into a frenzied mix of fear, confusions and desire for revenge, and the Mystic Falls finds itself at the crux of either salvation or destruction.
