Gardiner becomes increasingly influential within the Church, and begins to use his position to oppose Henry's religious reforms. This sets him on a collision course with the king, who sees the bishop as a threat to his power and authority.

As the episode unfolds, Henry becomes increasingly isolated and erratic in his behavior. His grief over Jane's death has pushed him to the brink of madness, and he is willing to go to any lengths to regain control of his life. With enemies closing in on all sides, he has to make some tough decisions about his future and the future of England.
