Ep 1. I Know What You Did Last Summer

In the season 5 premiere of The Vampire Diaries, the episode titled "I Know What You Did Last Summer" picks up where season 4 left off. Elena and Caroline are preparing for their first semester at Whitmore College, while Tyler seemingly disappeared after escaping from Klaus' grasp.

The episode starts off with a bang as we see a mysterious figure attacking a couple in a cornfield. It's quickly revealed that the culprit is none other than Silas, the immortal being who was introduced in the previous season. We learn that he's on the hunt for Katherine Pierce, who we last saw being thrown into a vat of water at the end of season 4.

Meanwhile, Elena and Caroline are trying to adjust to college life, but it's not as easy as they thought it would be. Elena is struggling with her newfound vampirism and the urge to feed on human blood, while Caroline is dealing with a new roommate and the pressure to fit in with the other girls at the sorority.

Back in Mystic Falls, Stefan is dealing with the aftermath of his relationship with Elena ending and trying to move on with his life. Damon is still grappling with the loss of his best friend, Alaric, and trying to figure out how to be a good boyfriend to Elena. Bonnie, on the other hand, is nowhere to be found as she sacrificed herself at the end of season 4 to save her friends.

As the episode progresses, we see flashbacks to what the gang did over the summer. Elena went on a road trip with Damon while Caroline and Tyler went to visit Caroline's dad. Stefan, on the other hand, stayed in Mystic Falls and helped Damon clean up the mess that was left behind after the Travelers' spell. We also see a glimpse of Katherine, who is now human and on the run from Silas.

Towards the end of the episode, we finally see the gang come together as Elena, Damon, and Stefan team up to help find Bonnie. While searching for her in the woods, they stumble upon a surprising discovery that could change everything.

"I Know What You Did Last Summer" sets the stage for what promises to be an action-packed season 5 of The Vampire Diaries. With new villains, challenges, and surprises in store, it's clear that the gang has a lot to deal with this year. Will they be able to handle it all? Only time will tell.
