Third Watch is a crime drama series that aired on NBC from 1999 to 2005. The show follows the lives of police officers, firefighters, and paramedics who work the overnight shift (the 'third watch') in the fictional precinct of the 55th in New York City. The series focuses on their day-to-day struggles and the challenges they face while working to protect and serve the city of New York.

The show was created by John Wells and Edward Allen Bernero, who were both involved in the production of other popular law-enforcement dramas such as ER, The West Wing, and Criminal Minds. The series stars a diverse cast of talented actors, including Coby Bell, Cara Buono, Michael Beach, Molly Price, Kim Raver, Jason Wiles, Skipp Sudduth, Anthony Ruivivar, and Eddie Cibrian.

The show's first episode begins with a new recruit, Officer John "Sully" Sullivan (played by Skipp Sudduth), arriving for his first night shift at the 55th precinct. He is greeted by a veteran cop, Officer Maurice "Bosco" Boscorelli (played by Jason Wiles), who quickly takes him under his wing. Bosco is a tough, street-wise cop who has seen it all, and he helps Sully navigate the dangerous and unpredictable world of New York City's streets.

The other members of the 55th precinct include paramedics Carlos Nieto (played by Anthony Ruivivar) and Doc Parker (played by Michael Beach), firefighter Jimmy Doherty (played by Eddie Cibrian), and his sister, firefighter Kim Zambrano (played by Kim Raver). The series often focuses on the relationships between these characters and the struggles they face both on and off the job.

Throughout the series, the characters face a wide variety of challenges, from gang violence to natural disasters. The show's writers aren't afraid to tackle tough subject matter, including drug addiction, homelessness, and domestic violence. However, the show also has plenty of lighter moments, and the characters' sense of humor and camaraderie help to balance out the more serious plotlines.

One of the highlights of the show is the strong performances by the ensemble cast. Coby Bell, in particular, shines as Ty Davis Jr., a rookie cop who is determined to make a difference. Ty's story arc takes him from an idealistic new recruit to a seasoned veteran who has seen the worst that the city has to offer.

Another standout character is Cara Buono's Grace Foster, a paramedic who is struggling to balance her work life with her personal life. Grace is a complex character, and Buono does an excellent job of portraying her as a strong yet vulnerable woman who is trying to find her place in the world.

The show's production values are also top-notch, with gritty, realistic sets and plenty of action-packed scenes. The show's creators worked closely with real-life first responders to ensure that the show accurately portrayed their work and the challenges they face.

Overall, Third Watch is an engaging, gritty drama series that explores the lives of New York City's 'first responders'. The show's excellent writing, performances, and production values make it a must-see for fans of crime dramas and action-packed TV shows. Even though the show has been off the air for over a decade, it still holds up as a timeless classic.

Third Watch is a series that is currently running and has 6 seasons (132 episodes). The series first aired on September 23, 1999.
