Meanwhile, Mr. Roper is convinced that Jack is secretly dating Helen and becomes determined to catch them in the act. He enlists the help of his wife, Helen's aunt, and even hires a private investigator to spy on Jack. Misunderstandings and hijinks ensue as the roommates try to keep Helen's rendezvous a secret while avoiding Mr. Roper's suspicions.

As the evening progresses, Jack and the roommates find themselves getting increasingly involved in Helen's love life, including trying to break up a fight between Helen and Marc and even pretending to be Helen's parents when Mr. Roper unexpectedly shows up at their apartment. It all leads to a chaotic and hilarious ending, with Jack and the roommates attempting to juggle their own secrets and lies while trying to help Helen and keep their apartment.
