On a winter day in the small town of Twin Peaks the body of Laura Palmer washes up on the riverbank. The beautiful Homecoming Queen is wrapped naked in a sheet of plastic. Across state lines another girl from Twin Peaks is found badly injured. Since the second girl is found across state line, agent FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper is called to investigate.

While investigating the murder and attack of the second girl, agent Cooper discovers Laura's double life. Laura was not the sweet girl that everyone thought she was. She suffered from cocaine addiction and was involved in many different criminal activities. Through Laura's death many mysteries unfold. Her father is so distraught that he has a nervous breakdown. Mystery surrounds her best friend Donna and cousin Maddy. Agent Cooper discovers that Laura's psychiatrist was obsessed with her, the lumber mill is being destroyed by the richest man in town and Agent Cooper is shot by an unknown assailant.

Mystery turns supernatural throughout the series when dreams become reality. This triggers a chain of events resulting in suicide, shootings, and murder. Everyone in the town is suspect of one crime or another. Some of the towns' folk are dealing with the occult which leads to an unexpected climax where they finally discover the truth surrounding Laura Palmer's death which is the root of the events that had unfolded in the strange little town.

Twin Peaks ran for two seasons in the early nineties. It was a new kind of soap opera. It was full of romance, cheating, lying and drama yet added a new twist to night time dramas. With its mysterious and intriguing characters it is impossible to figure out the motives behind any of their actions or what will happen as the story unfolds. In its short time on TV this show became a cult classic that spawned the Hollywood move Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me which ties into the whole story and explains things that the TV show left out.
