Ep 8. Lost Things

Carrie Wells, the former Syracuse detective, investigates a vandalism incident that involves an antique shop. A security camera footage shows a group of teenagers ransacking the shop when a teenage girl breaks off from the group and heads to the backroom. The girl is captured by the camera and identified by the shop owner as Lily Templeton, the granddaughter of the now deceased owner of the shop.

Carrie and Detective Al Burns interview Lily and discover that the shop is closed due to the passing of her grandfather. She was returning an item that she had borrowed from her grandfather, and in the process, she spotted a well-camouflaged box in the backroom. She sneaked back into the shop to retrieve the box but found that someone had already taken it. Lily did not inform anyone about the box and had no idea what was inside it.

Carrie and Burns investigate the missing box. It is rumored to contain a rare, antique watch worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. They track down all potential suspects and discover that there was a second robbery attempt on the same antique store. The second robbery attempt was violent, and the security guard was badly injured. The watch was not, however, taken.

The detectives catch a break when an expert in antique watches identifies the watch left behind as a cheap knockoff. He tells Carrie and Burns that the store owner was a con artist who used the real watch to scam a wealthy collector. The collector was livid and hired a professional thief to steal the watch back. The thief was thwarted by the security guard, who recognized him from past robberies.

The detectives conclude that the thief hid the real antique watch in the antique shop but could not retrieve it because of the additional police presence. They believe that the second attempt was to create a diversion while the thief recovered the rare watch.

The detectives tracked the thief down and convinced him to reveal the location of the rare watch. The thief agreed to play ball when he was told that the collector was willing to drop the charges in exchange for the return of the watch.

Carrie and Burns, along with a team of investigators, prepared a sting operation to catch the thief. They planned to let the thief take the watch and follow him to the collector's location. When the thief arrived at the predetermined location, they were met with a surprise.

The collector's location was a desolate warehouse where the thief waited for an hour before realizing he had been set up. The warehouse was empty, and the collector was nowhere to be found. The thief panicked and tried to flee, but Carrie and Burns' team were waiting. They arrested the thief and questioned him about the location of the real collector.

The thief claimed that he did not know where the collector was and started to play ignorant, but the detectives made it clear that the charges would not be dropped without the collector's whereabouts. The thief finally broke and revealed the collector's location. The detectives arrived at the collector's home and retrieved the watch.

The episode ends on a happy note with the return of the rare watch to its rightful owner and the arrest and successful prosecution of the thief. The missing box is recovered, and the case is solved.
