In Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea season 2 episode 1, entitled "Jonah and the Whale," the crew of the Seaview receives a distress signal from a nearby research vessel, the Onion. Upon investigation, they find that all of the crew members have disappeared without a trace. While searching for clues, the Seaview is suddenly caught up in a powerful underwater current and dragged towards a mysterious island.

As they approach the island, the crew discovers that it is surrounded by a massive whirlpool that seems to be controlled by a giant octopus-like creature. Realizing that they are in grave danger, the crew works quickly to come up with a plan to escape the island and the clutches of the sea monster.

Meanwhile, Admiral Nelson is plagued by guilt over past mistakes that he believes have caused the death of a friend and fellow scientist. As he struggles to come to terms with his past, he must also help his crew escape the perilous situation they find themselves in.

Throughout the episode, tensions run high as the crew races against time to outsmart the sea monster and make their way back to safety. With the help of brilliant scientist Dr. Caitlin O'Hara and Captain Crane's quick thinking, they may just have a chance at survival.
