Tomoko Kuroki is a high school student who has never been popular. In fact, she's never had any friends at all. Despite her unpopularity, she has dreams of becoming a popular girl like those she sees in manga and anime. In episode 11 of WataMote season 1, entitled "Since I'm Not Popular, I'll Take Part in the Culture Festival," Tomoko decides to try to change things by taking part in the school's culture festival.

The culture festival is a big event at Tomoko's school, and she sees it as an opportunity to prove to her classmates that she's capable of being cool and popular. She's determined to make a big impression, so she starts planning her booth early and recruiting other students to help her with the preparations.

Tomoko's booth is meant to be a fortune-telling booth, and she's convinced that it will be a huge hit with her classmates. However, as she starts to put her plans into action, she realizes just how much work it takes to organize an event like this. She struggles to recruit helpers, and those who do agree to help her are less than enthusiastic about the work involved.

As the festival approaches, Tomoko starts to panic. She worries that her booth won't be good enough, and that nobody will want to visit it. To make matters worse, she suffers a major embarrassment when her brother visits her at school and sees her working on the booth.

Despite all of her worries, Tomoko manages to get her booth set up on the day of the festival. She's thrilled when the first few people stop by for a fortune-telling session, but her happiness is short-lived when she realizes that her booth isn't drawing the crowds that she had hoped for.

As the day wears on, Tomoko becomes more and more dejected. She watches other booths, envious of their success, and is forced to face the fact that her booth just isn't cutting it. In the end, she's left with nothing but a handful of customers and a lot of disappointment.

However, in the midst of her despair, Tomoko has a moment of clarity. She realizes that her obsession with being popular has blinded her to the things that are truly important in life. She decides to change her focus and devote her energies to helping out at the festival, rather than worrying about her own success.

In the end, Tomoko learns an important lesson about humility and the value of hard work. She may not have achieved her dreams of being the coolest kid at school, but she's gained a new appreciation for the people around her - and for herself.
